Join us, The Heather Cutler Foundation, Newfoundland and Labrador’s first-and-only member organization of the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition, as we work to rewrite the playbook on pancreatic cancer advocacy in Canada.

Canada’s smaller provinces face significant gaps in care. People here are missing out on critical biomarker and genetic testing, life-saving clinical trials, and timely drug approvals. These systemic barriers have left Newfoundlanders with little hope of survival—and these are the areas where we are determined to make a change.

At The Heather Cutler Foundation, this fight is personal. For two years, we walked the difficult path of pancreatic cancer with our mom, Heather. We saw firsthand the devastating lack of access, care, and support that patients and families face. That’s why this campaign is about more than awareness—it’s about action, connection, and real change.

Introducing Our First In-Person Event: #WeAreCanadaToo

This March, over three impactful days, #WeAreCanadaToo will transform the vibrant streets of downtown St. John’s into a hub of advocacy and community engagement.

Our volunteers will be stationed along Water and Duckworth Streets, ready to share the vital messages behind Petition e-5186, which we submitted to Canada’s House of Commons. This petition calls on the federal government to prioritize pancreatic cancer by addressing the complete lack of precision medicine-focused clinical trials and ensuring equitable access to care across the country.

These passionate volunteers will engage directly with passersby, answering questions and sharing information about the systemic barriers facing smaller provinces like Newfoundland and Labrador. From the lack of biomarker testing at diagnosis to the absence of clinical trials, they’ll help you understand why this petition is so important.

For those ready to act, we’ve made it easy. Volunteers will have tablets available so you can sign Petition e-5186 on the spot. Prefer to take your time? Pick up one of our brochures, which includes everything you need to know about the petition, our mission, and how you can get involved.

But this event isn’t just about spreading information—it’s about connection. Many families in Newfoundland and beyond have been affected by pancreatic cancer, and we want to hear your stories. Whether it’s your personal experience or your thoughts on how things could improve, your voice matters to us. Every story shared helps shape the work we do to reflect the needs of the people we serve.

This event is more than a campaign; it’s a space for dialogue, understanding, and action. Together, we’ll remind the federal government that Newfoundland and Labrador matters—because #WeAreCanadaToo.
